Some friends sent me this link from portfolio.com with an article talking about shifts in e-publishing and what that means for authors. Thought you might find it interesting, folks.
I think more and more each day that e-publishing is a viable route for new writers.

I am hearing this more and more often...about how people are considering it. Look at Amanda Hocking, it can sure be a career starter, but I think for now I am going to stick with the traditional route. I do love that epub is always an option though:)
I love her story. It is so inspiring. If you write well and fast, you will suceed in e-publishing.
Deana: I'm actually considering both approaches simultaneously. I'm going to keep searching for a traditional publisher for the interim, but if my book doesn't get picked up by an agent/publisher, why not throw it out there for others to read?
Cindy: I agree. Guess that means I need to ramp up my speed, huh?
I've read lots on e-publishing, I thought I'd say that first before I go and read your link. I will do both, of course. I will never dismiss paper books. Love paper books.
btw, how will authors do book signings? :(

Can Alex save Winter from the darkness that hunts her?
YA Paranormal Romance, Darkspell coming fall of 2011!
Joshua, my book just released not long ago, and I find that the trend is going to e-books. Though...they are overpriced if you ask me. I mean, technically is the best way to make money, but as a first time author, keeping my ebook price low has been great! No one wants to spend too much on an author that hasn't proven themselves yet.
My Kindle sales are great at $3.99!

Excellent comments, folks. I'm really interested in seeing how things progress.
@Elizabeth: I'm wondering if book signings are overrated in terms of results and interaction. I think that conventions and conferences may fill the bill for me.
@S.B. Niccum: Tell me more about your process. I've read that the $0.99 price point is currently the strong number, but of course, the percentage is lower. Who did you have do your cover? What do you consider great Kindle sales? Feel free to email me if you want to keep particulars more confidential, but I'd really appreciate more!
Amanda Hocking used the back door to the NY publsihers. That's one way to go, and it worked for her, but on her blog, she talked about how difficult it was to self pub, with the expense of editing and formating and marketing.
@M K Yarbrough: You are absolutely right, though I think the expense in marketing was an investment of time, not financial. That still is a heavy cost, though. Just trying to keep up with blogging, expand my circle of contacts, and research, takes time and energy.
But whether we e-publish or go with the traditional publishers, building that kind of marketing is smart.
Great article, thanks for sharing. I'm with you here, I think e-publishing is becoming more and more realistic.
