New Post by Konrath and Eisler on E-Publishing

Time for another quick e-book post, folks. Times are a changing.

Here's another post by Konrath and Eisler talking about publishing with Amazon, the shifting world of e-publishing, legacy publishers, and change. As in, be open to change. It's gonna happen.

No matter what your current philosophy on publishing, go read it. Right away. This is excellent material.

I'm querying agents right now, but that's in part because I believe the right agent and I can form a relationship that will transcend the changes of the industry. Whether that agent becomes an estributor or takes another form is yet to be seen. But one thing I know: the old models are no longer the best or only models. We need to adapt and watch for new and exciting ways to share our stories. And I think if we are smart, we'll all win.

Hey, that's my line. :-) Okay, to be fair, it was Bob Dylan's first. Definitely thought that song was descriptive of the times re: the book industry. Seems like there's a new announcement in my inbox every day. This week - can't wait to try out the new Nook.

Thanks for this. Just today I gave my agent a heads-up that if the major publishers we are approaching now don't come through, I'll be pursuing self-publishing. I told her that if that happens, I'd love for us to figure out how we might still work together - what would make sense for us in this new world where writers can make their own opportunities.

@Melissa: I'm interested in how that turns out for you. I'm querying agents right now as well, but I'm skeptical about what is currently happening with the big six, but I have hopes that things will turn for the better.

It's interesting how the publishing world is changing. I think it's imperative that writers and readers keep open minds.

I haven't given up yet on the traditional publishers, but I won't wait forever either. Agents are marketers, so it's not a stretch to figure out other marketing roles they can play for their clients. I will definitely let you know what happens.
